Thanks to companies like Google, it is nowadays possible for anyone to simply search for information on the Web.
Unfortunately, users who search for and would like to find company data pools are usually less successful.
While the number of applications and data sources has considerably increased, the metadata has not kept pace.
All the initiatives in the areas of data governance, data quality and master data management cannot be, however,
overcome without metadata.
In future, all business intelligence and content management systems will no longer be able to operate without metadata.
As with the other areas, the same applies here: The primacy depends on the concepts and processes, not on a particular technology.
Business metadata defines the terms, taxonomy und the link between the terms. Metadata should always be available to the user,
in order to confirm what their data really contains.
Technical metadata describes, for example, database objects such as tables, attributes and relations.
